Calling all VTO Families!
We are excited to announce that our 6th annual summer program will run from Monday, July 28th, to Friday, August 8th. This year, we are proud to offer more than 15 different workshops, ranging from human biology to cybersecurity! We hope that all students will find an area that piques their interest.
Students and families are invited to review the class summaries provided below. All classes are free of cost and will be hosted via Zoom.

Drawing Fun Animal Friends
Class Overview: A creative space for students to work with shape, movement, and imagination to bring animals to life.
Recommended Grade Level: K-2
Class Schedule: 1-2 PM PDT on 8/2 and 8/3
Creature Creations: Drawing Animals
Class Overview: This class will help students practice sketching and drawing different animals while encouraging them to experiment!
Recommended Grade Level: 3-5
Class Schedule: 2-3 PM PDT on 8/2 and 8/3
The Wisdom Warriors*
Class Overview: This class will provide math support and homework help in areas like basic geometry and arithmetic.
Recommended Grade Level: 3-5
Class Schedule: 10-11 AM PDT on 7/29, 7/31, and 8/2

Intro to Environmental Science
Class Overview: A session to familiarize interested students with environmental science topics, such as pollution and ecology.
Recommended Grade Level: 3-5
Class Schedule: 2-4 PM on 8/7
Reporters on the Case! Intro to Journalism
Class Overview: Designed for younger students, this class will utilize a fun, fictional mystery to introduce the basics of journalism.
Recommended Grade Level: 3-5
Class Schedule: 1-2 PM PDT on 7/28, 7/30, and 8/1
Discover Robotics! - Intro to FLL
Class Overview: An introduction to robotics, students will learn about hardware, software, and the format of the FLL competition.
Recommended Grade Level: 3-6
Class Schedule: 3-5 PM PDT on 8/3
Brush & Bloom: Modern Calligraphy and Card-Making
Class Overview: This beginner-friendly calligraphy class will cover stroke types and styles, with a special culminating project!

Underwater Explorers! Dive into the exciting world of Marine Biology
Class Overview: In this interactive class, students will learn about different marine species and the environmental issues they face.
Recommended Grade Level: 5-6
Class Schedule: 9-10 AM PDT on 7/29 and 7/30.
Math Matters
Class Overview: This workshop will introduce students to the main concepts taught in middle school math classes.
Recommended Grade Level: 5-7
Class Schedule: 10-11 AM PDT on 8/4, 8/5, 8/6, 8/7, and 8/8
Fundamentals for Being a Leader: Intro to Leadership
Class Overview: This jam-packed course will introduce students to various principles of leadership, ranging from conflict resolution to team building to goal planning!
Recommended Grade Level: 5-7
Class Schedule: 2-3 PM PDT on 7/28, 7/29, 7/30, 7/31, and 8/1. Schedule changes to 11-12 PM PDT on 8/2, 8/3, and 8/5. There are eight sessions in total.
The Art of Hacking: Intro to Cybersecurity and Defense
Class Overview: This class will familiarize students with the basics of cybersecurity, focusing on the theory of offense and practical defense scenarios.
Recommended Grade Level: 5-8
Class Schedule: 3-5 PM PDT on 8/4, 8/5, and 8/6
Ocean Exploring 101: How to Become a Scuba Diver
Class Overview: This class will provide an immersive inside look at scuba diving, from the science behind the gear to the physical requirements.
Recommended Grade Level: 4-6
Class Schedule: 10-11 AM PDT on 7/30
Rhetoric Rookies: An Introduction to Speech & Debate
Class Overview: This workshop will utilize interactive scenarios and real-world examples to introduce students to public speaking and rhetoric.
Recommended Grade Level: 5-8
Class Schedule: 1-2 PM PDT on 8/8
Email Writing 101
Class Overview: This class will provide students with a step-by-step to craft strong, clear, and professional emails.
Recommended Grade Level: 5-9
Class Schedule: 9-10 AM PDT on 8/2 and 8/3
Junior Journalists
Class Overview: In this course, students will learn to read articles and ultimately pitch, write, and edit a story. Student work will be compiled in a newsletter!
Recommended Grade Level: 6-8
Class Schedule: 11-12 PM PDT on 7/28, 7/29, 7/30, 7/31, and 8/1
Gridlock: Introduction to Logic Puzzles and Deductive Reasoning
Class Overview: This class will introduce students to innovative logic-based puzzles and help them develop strong critical thinking skills.
Recommended Grade Level: 6-8
Class Schedule: 2-3 PM PDT on 8/4, 8/5, and 8/6
Inside Out: The Human Body Uncovered
Class Overview: In this course, students will learn about different systems and aspects of the human body through creative projects and labs!
Recommended Grade Level: 7-8
Class Schedule: 9-10 AM PDT on 7/31 and 8/1
Introduction to Human Biology
Class Overview: In this class, students will learn basic anatomy, physiology, and cell biology, and complement their learning with virtual lab experiences.
Recommended Grade Level: 7-9
Class Schedule: 1-2 PM PDT on 7/29 and 7/30
