Happy New Year to all our VTO families and students! We are excited to kick off 2026 with an exciting announcement- the winners of our 2nd Creative Writing Competition!

We’d like to thank all participants for their patience during the judging process. A key note is that, for logistical reasons, we ultimately decided to select only one winner from both the upper and lower divisions. We received several strong submissions this year, all embodying the theme of “something unexpected” in their own ways.

Without further ado, here are our placements:

Upper Division:

Ashwin Sundaresan (“The Thing in the Locker”)

Lower Division:

Ameya Asam (“Something Unexpected!”)

Congratulations to these two talented writers! We will be adding their work to our student portfolio page shortly.

I’d like to reiterate that the purpose of our Creative Writing Competition has been to provide a safe, supportive outlet for students to explore structured creative writing. In the future, we encourage all students- seasoned and budding writers- to take a risk and tell a story! For those of you who chose to share your work with us this time, thank you- and we hope you continue experimenting with your words.

Until next time,

Anoushka Majumder

Vice President and Curriculum Director of English, VTO
