June 2026: Creative Writing Competition (Round #3)

Hello VTO Families! 

Happy Summer! 

We are excited to share that we will be hosting our third annual Creative Writing Competition! Once again, all students in grades K-9 are invited to share an original short story, poem, or personal narrative. Our topic for this year is summer memories. 

As in previous years, we will be dividing the competition into a lower (K-4) and upper division (5-9). One winner from each division will receive an Amazon gift card and have their written piece featured on the VTO website under student work. 

The formal submission form for all written pieces will open Wednesday, July 1, and close on Wednesday, September 9th. 

To support our students during their creative writing process, we will be hosting a Creative Writing Workshop on Saturday, July 18th, at 9 am PT via Zoom. We will go over each of the accepted writing forms, ways to approach the prompt, and broader writing tips. To register for the workshop, please complete the registration form below NLT Friday, July 17th. 

Depending on the category, pieces will be graded using a standardized rubric. Students’ grade levels will also be taken into consideration during the judging process to provide a more holistic evaluation. Please ensure that all content remains appropriate for elementary and middle school audiences. 

Like always, we encourage students of all grades to participate! The goal of the Creative Writing Competition is to foster a supportive space for writers of all levels.
