July 2024: Introducing VTO's Summer Program!

Attention all VTO families! 


After extensive planning and preparation, we are proud to announce that our annual summer program this year will run from August 3 to August 18


As we are an organization committed to helping students discover and pursue their passions, we are excited to offer workshops and seminars on various topics- from journalism to CAD! 


We invite students to families to learn more about this summer’s workshops and peruse the class descriptions below. All classes will meet virtually using Zoom and are free


  1. Discover Robotics! Intro to FLL 


Class Overview: Offering students a foundational understanding of FLL robotics, including hardware, mechanics, and coding. 

Suggested Grade Level: 3-6 

Class Schedule (PT): 11 am to 12 pm on 8/12 and 8/14


2. Junior Journalists 


Class Overview: Introducing students to the field of journalism by reading, writing, and peer-reviewing different articles. 

Suggested Grade Level: 6-8

Class Schedule (PT): 10 - 11 am on 8/12, 8/14, and 8/16 


3. Email Writing 101 


Class Overview: Providing students with key skills and takeaways for professional email communication. 

Suggested Grade Level: 5-9

Class Schedule (PT): 9 - 10 am on 8/3 and 8/4 


4. Intro to Speech and Debate 


Class Overview: Offered through Eloquence Academy, students will learn and practice public speaking and debate. 

Suggested Grade Level: 5-8

Class Schedule (PT): 10 am - 12 pm on 8/6, 8/7, 8/8, and 8/9 


5. Intro to Environmental Science 


Class Overview: Introducing students to various subtopics within environmental science, including food chains, ecology, and others. 

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Class Schedule (PT): 10 - 11 am on 8/10 and 8/11


6. Math Beyond the Textbook 


Class Overview: Providing students with a basic introduction to less-traditional math topics such as metric spaces, graph theory, etc. 

Suggested Grade Level: 5-7

Class Schedule (PT): 3 -4 pm on 8/5, 8/7, and 8/9


7. Cyberman: Into the Cyberverse 


Class Overview: Offering students an introduction to computer science principles, hardware, and the Python programming language. 

Suggested Grade Level: 6-8

Class Schedule (PT): 1 - 2 pm on 8/5, 8/6, 8/7, and 8/8


8. The Language of Biology: Intro to Genetics


Class Overview: Introducing students to the field of genetics and the principles of simple Mendelian inheritance using different activities. 

Suggested Grade Level: 5-9

Class Schedule (PT): 9 - 10 am on 8/6 and 8/7


9. CAD the Next Designs 


Class Overview: Providing students with basic engineering, design, and CAD (Computer-aided design) skills using TinkerCAD. 

Suggested Grade Level: 3-5

Class Schedule: 3 - 4 pm on 8/6, 8/8, 8/12, and 8/15


10. Drawing Animals 


Class Overview: An introduction to different drawing techniques, including sketching, shading, composition, etc. 

Suggested Grade Level: K-2

Class Schedule: 2 - 3 pm on 8/6, 8/7, 8/8, 8/9, and 8/12


11. High School Transition Webinar 


Webinar Overview: A panel interview with rising high school sophomores as they discuss their experiences on all fronts during their middle to high school transitions and freshman year of high school. 

Suggested Grade Level: Parents and Students of all grade levels are welcome! 

Webinar Schedule: 5 - 6 pm on 8/10


12. High School Journey Webinar 


Webinar Overview: A panel interview with late high school students as they share their advice and experiences from their overall high school journey. 

Suggested Grade Level: Parents and Students of all grade levels are welcome!
